Takoma Park Friends Meeting-Preparative gathered on 8/25/2019 at the Dance Exchange in Takoma Park, Maryland.
We heard queries from Baltimore Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice on Outreach. We heard an appreciation that queries on outreach exist; the need for outreach especially for those who are not familiar with Quakers; and the connections that outreach can reveal. We heard of hesitancy to identify as a Quaker because that seems like such a high ideal. We heard that silent Quaker worship is not attractive to all and an appreciation of being available to others without pressure.
Tricia Crocker, treasurer, handed out copies of the treasurer’s report for the month (attached). We accepted the report.
We had a first reading for Tricia Crocker to serve as Treasurer for the term 12/1/2019 to 11/30/2020.
We should do a first reading of the budget for FY 2020 next month, so people with relevant information should let the Treasurer know.
We were reminded that meeting for worship will be held in the library of Takoma Park Presbyterian Church on a three-week trial run basis on September 1, 15 and 22. Because of concerns due to limited parking spaces, the church has requested that if we continue using their facilities, beginning in October we start meeting for worship ½ hour after their service begins, which will mean 11:30. We will not meet on Sept. 8, instead having a table at the Takoma Park folk festival.
We heard and approved these minutes. We adjourned, to gather next on 9/22/2019 at the rise of meeting, or at the call of the presiding clerk.
