4/28/2019 minutes
Takoma Park Friends Meeting-Preparative gathered on 4/28/2019 at the Dance Exchange in Takoma Park, Maryland.
We heard queries from Baltimore Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice on personal spiritual life. We heard about George Fox’s revelation that Christ can speak to his condition, and that Christ can come as a teacher. What about Christ as healer? The Christ who showed up for Fox was the one who could meet Fox’s need; he can also offer healing if that is what we need. We also heard that worship involves listening to God.
Tricia Crocker, treasurer, handed out copies of the treasurer’s report for the month (attached). Donations are lagging behind. We accepted the report.
The spiritual state of the meeting report has been passed on to Adelphi Friends Meeting.
We discussed support for Quaker groups and decided to do further research on the possibility of adding a new group to the list (prisoner visitation and support project of Patapsco Friends meeting).
Celebrate Takoma is held at Piney Branch Elementary School on May 18. There is no cost. We will apply for a space.
We visited Rhizome; the space could be available, but accessibility is poor, so we decided not to pursue this option. We will continue to explore other locations (Electric Maid, Takoma Park Presbyterian, and others).
We will consider further ideas for the timing of our meeting for worship.
We heard and approved these minutes. We adjourned, to gather next on 5/26/2019 at the rise of meeting, or at the call of the presiding clerk.
