Takoma Park Friends Meeting-(Preparative) gathered on 2/15/2026 in the library of the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church, following meeting for worship.
We heard and discussed queries from Baltimore Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice on meetings for business.
The treasurer’s report for the period 12/1/25 to 2/15/2026 was presented and accepted (attached).
We heard that three meeting attenders now have approved background checks for work with children in accordance with our youth safety policy. We follow the youth safety policy of Adelphi Friends Meeting, as well as that of the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church, in line with our space use agreement.
We received a request from the Baltimore Yearly Meeting working group on racism for feedback. We decided to discuss this at a second hour on the second week in March.
We considered the possibility of making a further loan to Adelphi Friends Meeting to assist with building construction expenses, for a term of one year, and will consider this in March.
We discussed the problem that a number of positions in the meeting have been filled for a number of years by the same persons. One remedy would be to grow the meeting so we have more candidates for officers. We could inform Friends from other nearby meetings of the opportunity to visit our meeting. A somewhat larger attendance may be more welcoming to newcomers.
We considered the possibility of skipping a business meeting, with a view to seeing whether business meeting attendance increases in the following month.
We heard and approved these minutes. We adjourned, to gather next on March 15, 2026, or at the call of the presiding clerk.
