Takoma Park Friends Meeting-Preparative gathered on 9/23/2018 at the Dance Exchange in Takoma Park, Maryland.
We heard queries and advices from the 2013 draft Baltimore Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice on listening. We heard that it was telling that the query involved listening rather than reading, involving the power of the spoken word. Listening involves attention. It can be difficult, especially in a distracting environment. Being attentive to nature can change us and help us appreciate that there is something greater than us.
Tricia Crocker, treasurer, handed out copies of the treasurer’s report. We accepted the report.
We had a first reading of the budget for 2019. We are aiming for a balanced budget for the second reading.
We approved Tricia Crocker to serve as Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer of Adelphi Friends Meeting ex officio, for 12/1/2018 through 11/30/2019.
We approved gifts of $150 each to the following Quaker and community groups for the current budget year.
Friends Committee on National Legislation
Friends General Conference
Friends Peace Teams (earmark: African Great Lakes Initiative)
Right Sharing of World Resources
William Penn House
CASA de Maryland
Dance Exchange
Maryland Alliance for Justice Reform
Scholar Chips
Shepherd’s Table
Village of Takoma Park (earmark: parents of special needs adults project)
Action in Montgomery.
We agreed to make $100 of the contributions to Scholarchips, CASA de Maryland, and Action in Montgomery conditional on sufficient donations being received.
We heard and approved these minutes. We adjourned, to gather next on 10/28/2018 at the rise of meeting, or at the call of the presiding clerk.
