Takoma Park Friends Meeting-Preparative gathered on 11/25/2018 at the Dance Exchange in Takoma Park, Maryland.

We heard queries and advices from Baltimore Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice on education.  We heard of the benefits of inclusiveness in studying religious texts; of support for public education, especially quality education at no charge; and of the harm caused by bullying.

Tricia Crocker, treasurer, handed out copies of the treasurer’s report (attached).  We accepted the report.  Tricia also reported approval of our FY 2019 budget by Adelphi Friends Meeting and approval of her position as Takoma Park Treasurer (and assistant Treasurer of AFM).

A flyer about the Meeting to be posted on bulletin boards and in businesses was presented for a first reading.

We will approach the owners of the Montessori school on Carrol Avenue to indicate a monthly rental that we could consider, and are also in touch with the Bridge Hut.

A first reading of nominations for 2019 was presented, with the festival coordinator position still needing to be filled.

We agreed on 1/6/2019 as the date for a holiday gathering, at the rise of meeting.

We agreed to take the following steps to grow our Meeting:

  1. Revise the website, with a focus on making it more inviting to newcomers.
  2. Develop a plan for welcoming newcomers, to be brought back to a subsequent business meeting.
  3. Arrange a talk at Historic Takoma.

We heard and approved these minutes.  We adjourned, to gather next on 12/16/2018 at the rise of meeting, or at the call of the presiding clerk.
